Nigerian Woman Gang-Raped In India

A 35-year-old Nigerian woman, who has been staying in India on a tourist visa, was gang-raped in a moving car in the early hours of Friday. International media report claimed the unlucky woman was said to have been kidnapped outside a popular shopping mall in Saket, an area in New Delhi, capital of the country, before being bundled into a car.
The woman was finally rescued after a passerby spotted her on the side of the road in Mayur Vihar, around 20 kilometres (12 miles) away in east Delhi.

2015 Polls: CAN Denies N7bn Bribery Allegation



The Christian Association of Nigeria has denied the allegation that its leaders were offered N7bn by the Presidency to campaign for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election. The association also called on security agencies to investigate the Voice of Northern Christian Movement and its Executive Director, Mr. Musa Dikwa, for making the allegation.

The association also linked the allegation to those using different Christian organizations to perpetrate fraud.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the General Secretary of CAN, Dr. Musa Asake, the association said the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), had fallen into wrong hands, “because his endorsement for the March 28 general election by Northern Christian Leaders Eagle-Eye Forum led by one Aminchi Habu was fraudulent.”

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will meet unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas on May 2 in a fight fans have long craved between the finest boxers of their generation.

Unbeaten American Mayweather made the long-awaited announcement on Friday via the social media website Shots.com, ending weeks of increasingly intense speculation that the showdown had been set.
"What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal," Mayweather wrote.

One of the world's tallest residential buildings has been forcibly evacuated after it was engulfed in flames in the early hours of this morning in Dubai.

Pictures and video footage from Sky News showed a large blaze ripping through multiple floors of the Marina Torch tower, a new tower in the expat-heavy Marina district of the city.

More than a dozen fire trucks were able to extinguish the flames several hours after the fire alarm went off around 2am local time.

One eyewitness said flames shot out from two sides of the building as glass and metal rained down from near the summit of the 86-storey skyscraper, which stands more 330 metres tall (1,105 ft).
It is not yet confirmed if any Nigerian citizen(s) were affected as at the time of filing this report.

PwC ‘US$20bn’ NNPC Audit: Reps Demand Full Report

The Federal House of Representatives wants to be “fully” briefed by the federal government on the forensic audit report of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
PwC was directed to audit NNPC’s account last year, after Lamido Sanusi Lamido, the then governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), claimed that the corporation had failed to remit US$20 billion, an amount he later said was US$12 billion, according to media reports.

A 35-year-old serial rapist has been jailed for 1,535 years by a South African court here for sexually assaulting as many as 29 women over a period of five years, media reports said on Friday. Albert Morake's reign of terror in the Tembisa area of Gauteng province began in 2007 and ended with his arrest in 2012.

EBOLA OUTBREAK: WHO Approves Breakthrough 15-Minute Ebola Test


The World Health Organization has approved the first rapid test for Ebola in a potential breakthrough for ending an epidemic that has killed almost 10,000 people in West Africa, it said on Friday. The test, developed by U.S. firm Corgenix Medical Corp, is less accurate than the standard test but is easy to perform, does not require electricity, and can give results within 15 minutes, WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said.
"It's a first rapid test. It's definitely a breakthrough," he said.

Fresh facts emerged on Thursday about the allegation by the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi that President Goodluck Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party gave some pastors N6bn to campaign against the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in the 2015 presidential election.
A Borno State-based Pastor, Kallamu Dikwa, said the money allegedly given to the pastors by the Presidency was N7bn and not N6bn as alleged by Amaechi, who doubled as the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization.

CBN ACTION: It’s US$1 To N198 In ‘De Facto Devaluation’

The decision by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to close down its official market and channel all official forex demand to the interbank market has been described as a de facto devaluation of the naira.

According to Reuters, following the scrapping of the bi-weekly currency auction market, the naira will now N198 to a dollar, unveiling a de facto devaluation of the currency of Africa’s biggest economy and top oil producer.

The use of card readers is one of the innovations introduced by INEC‎ to improve the election process, Attahiru Jega, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed. Speaking before the Senate on Wednesday, Jega emphasized that card readers would be used in the elections because they give integrity to the electoral process.

“The card readers are not used for voting. They are used to improve the integrity of the election process, and it is for accreditation. Using the card readers has enormous advantages. It can only read‎ INEC cards, it authenticates the identity of registered voters, and the information is sent to the central server for analysis.”
