Police Confirm Death Of 2 Female Bombers, 3 Others In Kano Blasts




The Police in Kano on Monday confirmed the death of two female bombers in separate bomb blasts in Kano.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kano Police Command, ASP Magaji Majiya, made the confirmation at a news briefing.

He said the first incident happened around 10.30 a.m. at an NNPC Mega Filling Station in Hotoro on Maiduguri Road in Nasarawa Local Government Area.

According to him, the female bomber disguised herself as a kerosene buyer and joined other buyers who were on the queue.

He added that after joining the queue, she detonated the explosive, killing herself and three others.

Majiya said that seven other persons who sustained injuries were now receiving medical attention at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

He said the command had commenced investigation to unravel the motive behind the attack, adding that security had been beefed up in the ancient city.

The PPRO said the second incident occurred around 2 p.m. at the Trade Fair Complex on Zoo Road.

He said that the 19 year-old female suicide bomber died in an explosion triggered by her when was denied access to the fair ground.

He said when the young lady insisted on entering the trade fair complex, the security agents insisted on searching her and she detonated the bomb.

The PPRO said that six persons who were injured in the explosion were receiving medical attention.

He urged residents of the commercial city to be vigilant and report suspicious movement to the Police.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that two explosions which occurred on Sunday in Kano claimed the lives of six persons and injured eight others.

NAN reports that as a result of the incidents, major streets of Kano had been deserted.
