The Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, will host the 2014 edition of the Client Counselling Competition.

The national competition, affiliated to the Louise M. Brown International Client Consultation Competition, will provide the winners of the national event the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the international competition.

The chairman of the organising committee, Mr. Emmanuel Akhigbe, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, explained that the contest would feature over 11 universities across Nigeria.

It is aimed at promoting greater knowledge and interest among law students in areas such as interviewing, planning, analytical and preventive skills in the lawyer-client relationship.

Akhigbe explained that the contestants in the three-day event slated for Thursday would be evaluated according to specific criteria which focus on listening, questioning, planning and analytical skills that simulate the law office scene.

The competition is also expected to simulate a law office scene in which law students, acting as lawyers, are presented with a client’s matter.

University of Abuja, which won the ninth edition of the event, represented Nigeria at the 2014 Louis M. Brown and Forrest Morsten International Consultation Competition held at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico School of Law.
“It also provides them the needed avenue to appreciate the client’s needs and objectives as they explore available options and consider the consequences,” the statement added.
