Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets

Nigeria qualified to the FIFA U17 World Cup yesterday after they defeated Zambia 3-1 to reach the semifinals of the CAF U17 Championship in Niger. The Golden Eaglets finished top of Group A with five points from three matches, while Guinea were second on four points after they were upset 2-1 by already eliminated hosts Niger. The 2015 World Cup will be staged in Chile in November.

Victor Osimhen gave the Eaglets the lead after 36 minutes, before skipper Kelechi Nwakali made it 2-0 a minute to half time. Victor Osimhen completed his brace with a 48th minute strike to give Nigeria a 3-0 lead. Zambia pulled one goal back in the 61st minute through Patson Daka.

Both Nwakali and Osimhen now have three goals apiece at this tournament. The Nigeria youngsters will now clash with the runners-up in Group B, which has Mali, South Africa, Cameroon and defending champions Cote d’Ivoire.
