EBOLA OUTBREAK: New Ebola Lockdown in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone setback in fight against Ebola

A village of nearly 1,000 people in northern Sierra Leone has been put under quarantine, following the death of a 67-year-old woman over the weekend, whose body tested positive for Ebola. Soldiers and police are enforcing a three-week Ebola quarantine after a woman died of the disease in Kambia District near the border with Guinea on Saturday. The lockdown will be lifted 23rd September if no other cases arise.

It's a setback in the country's fight against Ebola, coming just five days into the start of the 42-day countdown for it to be declared officially free of the virus.

BBC report that soldiers and police have been dispatched to the village to enforce the quarantine, which is expected to last for three weeks provided no new cases are recorded.
The World Health Organization and Sierra Leone's Ministry of Health are now planning a comprehensive vaccination programme for those who could possibly have come into contact with the woman.
