Man Cycling Round The World Loses Bike

Somen Debnath cycling round the world lost his famous bicycle in Guinea Bissau

Somen Debnath, an Indian cycling round the world on a bicycle, has lost his famous bicycle, months before his journey is to end.

Daily Trust report continues:

In a post on a Whatsapp group he created, Debnath said he lost his bicycle in Guinea Bissau "on the way to Soa Domingo" on Thursday.

He had taken a ride in the back of a customs official's van.

Minutes into the ride, his bike was missing from the back of the van, he wrote.

"It was evening I passed the Ingore towards San Domingo. Almost dark so I met Mr. Carlos who is a custom chief officer and was going to San Domingo," Debnath said.

Carlos had suggested a lift by car, and was to put up at a hotel in San Domingo.

Five minutes into the drive, the men looked back and the bicycle was missing.

"Bicycle was not in back! Other bags only left!" said Debnath.

They moved through four villages till half past eight that night but could not find the bike, said Debnath.

Both men went on to San Domingo, stayed the night in a hotel and returned to search the villages but found nothing.

Police from Guinea Bissau's crime and customs departments are searching but have had no results.

The search has spawned the #AroundTheWorldBicycle hashtag in hopes of locating the famous bicycle.
Debnath cycled through Nigeria in December, part of his mission to raise awareness on HIV and health.
