Why We Didn’t Join Fuel Strike — Ajaero Faction

Comrade Joe Ajaero
The Comrade Joe Ajaero-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress has given reason why it didn’t join the recent protest against increase in the pump price of fuel by the Federal Government.

Daily Trust report continues:
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos weekend, Ajaero alleged that at the negotiation meeting last Tuesday, the Comrade Ayuba Wabba faction refused to sit on the same table with them and insisted that his faction (Ajearo) was not recognized.
“That may have led to the two different outcomes on how to address the issue. The first issue we agreed upon is the re-constitution of the Board of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).
“When the board is re-constituted in two weeks’ time, it is expected to review the new price and come out to Nigerians on appropriate pricing,” he said.
He spoke on the credibility of the board and assured that representatives of the labour unions will also be part of the board in order to protect the interest of the masses.
“Moreover, I think Nigerians should stop blaming labour for non-protest because the “Occupy Lagos” which held at Ojota was done by the political class. Those in Ojota are now in Aso Rock Villa. Where are those in Abuja then, why can’t they mobilize for another “Occupy Lagos”.
“These issues have gone beyond labour leaders, but Nigerians. As a labour leader, you will be committing industrial suicide if you call for a strike and your followers refuse to come out. A leader must gauge the pulse of his followers before taking any decision,” he said.
He called for transparency in the management of the ₦500 billion social investment fund earmarked as palliative in the 2016 budget which, he said, would go a long way to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.
