FOR THE RECORD: Governor Wike Visits Family Of Late PDP Bigwig Chief Ake

The widow of the late PDP State Chairman, Mrs Christina Ake received the State Chief Executuve and other PDP Chieftains
The Rivers State Governor, Bar Nyesom Wike paid a condolence visit to the family of Late Chief Godspower Ake in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Speaking during a condolence visit, Governor Wike declared that the Rivers State Government will participate in the burial of the late politician because he has served the state.
He said: "Chief GU Ake was a father to all of us despite the political differences. We decided to come here to say that his death was not painful only to his family, but to the entire state.
"His death was shocking to us. It is painful to the state because he has served this state in various capacities.
He said death is a necessary end that will be the portion of every human being at the appointed time.
He added: "We will stand with you. Rivers State Government will participate in the burial of our late father because he served the state during his life time.
Responding, the widow of the late PDP State Chairman, Mrs Christina Ake said that Chief G. U. Ake has gone to meet with the Lord.
A brother of the Late Politician, Senator Winston Ake was amongst the family members who received Governor Wike.
Governor Wike was accompanied on the condolence visit by Former Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, Senator Lee Maeba, Chief Sergeant Awuse, Senator George Sekibo, Prince Shedrach Akalokwu and Prince Emma Anyanwu.
Former Rivers State PDP Chairman, Ake Is Dead
One of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ex-chairman of the party in Rivers state Chief Godspower U Ake is dead.
The former PDP chairman was said to have died of an undisclosed sickness in Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
Media report learnt that Chief GU‎ Ake who was an indigene of Omoku in Ogba-Ogbema-Ndoni Local Government Area (LGA) had a running battle with a long-term terminal disease until his demise.
The political leader ‎in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni LGA, Prince Peter Odike, confirmed the news. Odike told correspondents via telephone that Chief Ake will be greatly missed especially at a time Rivers state needs him most.
“I can tell you that we have lost a mountain. It is so sad that we are losing him at this critical time of our state. This is when Rivers state needs him the most but unfortunately we can’t question God,” Odike said.
Chief Ake was the special adviser on Lands and Survey to former Governor Peter Odili. He later became the South-south zonal Chairman of the PDP after ‎the assassination of Chief Kaka Dikibo in 2004.
G.U Ake rose to become one of the most influential politicians in Rivers state after Marshal Harry who was also assassinated by snipers in Abuja. He later became the chairman of the PDP in Rivers state before he was removed by a High Court in Abuja and replaced by Chief Felix Obuah.
The political imbroglio of the PDP continues as the leadership tussle between the Ali Modu Sheriff and the Ahmed Makarfi factions of the party has resulted in the emergence of two state chairmen following parallel congresses held in Imo state.
