Abraham Kiptum Of Kenya Wins 2nd Access Bank Lagos City Marathon

With a record of two hours, 10 minutes, Kenya’s Abraham Kiptum, who won the maiden edition of Access Bank marathon race, has emerged winner of the 2017 edition.
In 2016, Kenya’s Abraham Kiptum won the race with a time of two hours, 16 minutes and 19 seconds.

On Saturday, Kiptum’s compatriots, Ronny Kiboss and Kiprotich Kiroi came second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, Philip Sharabutu was the first Nigerian to cross the finishing line, while Emmanuel Gyang came second.
In the women’s category, Halima Hussen of Ethiopia emerged first, with a time of 2 hours, 38 minutes and 36 seconds.
The race started at the National Stadium, Surulere and ended at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.
A total of 55,000 local and foreign runners and 30 wheelchair athletes battled for various prizes at stake.
Sixty-four elite professional athletes and 102 Nigerians were among the competitors.
For his outstanding performance, Kiptum will receive a cash prize of 25 million and other rewards.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rhoda Jepkhorir of Kenya, the first female elite athlete to cross the finish line in Saturday’s 2nd Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, said she would not hesitate to marry a Nigerian if approached.
Jepkhorir told NAN at the finish point that she would not hesitate due to the kind nature of Nigerians.
“If a Nigerian man should ask for my hand in marriage, I will marry him because Nigerians are nice people.
“Nationality is no barrier, so far he is committed and caring, I will have no option,’’ she said.
She also said that she loved watching the duo of Nigerian actors, Aki and Pawpaw, saying that she was so attached to Nigeria.
“Aki and Pawpaw are my best actors in Nigeria, I have so much love for the Nigerian movie industry,’’ the runner said.
The athlete, who is visiting Nigeria for the first time, said that winning the race was a dream comes true for her.
“The race has given me the opportunity to come to my dream country, I will come over and over again,’’ she said.
