Spanish Actress Win Prestigious Asturias Prize For Arts

Veteran Spanish actress Nuria Espert
Veteran Spanish actress Nuria Espert has been awarded one of the annual Prince of Asturias prizes for her decades of dedication to Spanish and Catalan drama.

Associated Press report continues:
Organizers say Wednesday the 80-year-old actress and director from the northeastern Catalan town of Hospitalet de Llobregat deserved the Asturias arts prize for representing "the recovery and continuity of the great tradition of Spanish theater in both the Spanish and Catalan languages" in a long and varied career.
The 50,000 (US$64,330) award is one of eight Asturias prizes handed out yearly by a foundation named for Crown Princess Leonor. Others categories include social sciences, sport and scientific research. They are presented each fall in the northern city of Oviedo.
Last year's arts winner was U.S. film director Francis Ford Coppola.
