Maximum Security Prison Graduation Ceremony In Kenya

A maximum security prison in Kenya has been the unusual setting for a ceremony awarding a diploma from the University of London, reports BBC.

Peter Ouko, an inmate at Kamiti prison in Nairobi, has received a diploma in common law.

A former death row inmate, Ouko followed the course online and will now advance to a further law qualification.
The event at the prison on Friday was attended by senior judge Richard Mwongo, representing the chief justice.

COUNTERMEASURES TO SANCTIONS? Russians See Sanctions As Tool To Weaken Nation, But Feel No Effect

Almost all Russian citizens claim that they feel no effect from the sanctions against their country and most maintain that the campaign seeks to weaken Russia and its position in global politics, reports RT.
According to the results of the latest poll released by the VTIOM agency on Friday, 92 percent of Russians said that the Western sanctions had not touched their interests in any way, 4 percent replied that they had noticed an increase in retail prices and only 4 percent declined to answer or reported actual problems, such as frozen bank accounts or the loss of a job in a foreign-based company.
Further, 62 percent of respondents said the sanctions would not have any effect on Russia. Fifteen percent said that after the start of the sanctions campaign the life in the country had only become better and the same number claimed life in Russia had deteriorated.

Some relatives and concerned colleagues of Ebola patients being treated at the Lagos Isolation center have cried out on what they termed the poor living condition of the victims, according to monitored reports. 

At a press conference held yesterday in Ikoyi, Lagos, some medical practitioners and colleagues of the female medical doctor confirmed to have contracted the virus while attending to late Patrick Sawyer, said the living condition of the victims are poor, stating that they have been left to battle the disease on their own as some physicians who are charged with the responsibility of attending to them have abandoned them for fear of also contracting the deadly virus.

US Warns Of Fraudulent Claims As Nano Silver- ‘Ebola Drug’ Is Tried In Nigeria


The US Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday it has become aware of products being sold online that fraudulently claim to prevent or treat Ebola.

Reuters reports that US FDA’s warning comes on the heels of comments by Nigeria’s health minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, who said eight Ebola patients in Lagos, the country’s capital, will receive an experimental treatment called Nano-silver.

CBN Reintroduce Charges On ATM Cards

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said that Automated Teller Machines (ATM) withdrawals would attract N65 per transaction to cover remuneration for the switches from Sept. 1

This is contained in a circular signed by Dipo Fatokun, Director Banking and Payment System Department, in Abuja on Thursday.
