West Africa Seeking €50 Mln From EU For Anti-Islamist Force

The countries of West Africa's Sahel region are requesting €50 million (US$56 million) from the European Union to help set up a multinational force to take on Islamist militant groups, Mali's military chief said on Saturday.

The larvae of black soldier flies, which are native to the Americas, can devour double their weight of garbage every day. They are being used in China, to combat food waste. "These bugs are not disgusting! They are for managing food waste. You have to look at this from another angle," Hu Rong, the manager of a black soldier fly farm, tells AFP. "On average, one kilo of maggots can eat two kilos of rubbish in four hours," one expert said of the black soldier fly larvae, which are being used to combat food waste in China.
Thousands of voracious white maggots wiggle frenetically while tearing through trayfuls of leftover meat, vegetables and fruits in an unusual farm in southwestern China.
