2015 Polls: INEC Extends Polls To Sunday In Problem Areas

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that voting in the ongoing presidential and parliamentary elections will continue tomorrow in areas where accreditation and voting problems have been discovered.

In a statement released by Chris Iyimoga, chairman of its information, voter education and publicity committee, INEC said it was coming up with the plan to avoid disenfranchising eligible voters.

“INEC has been monitoring field reports on the accreditation process since commencement this morning,” it said.

Guinea Deploys Police As Sierra Leoneans Flee Ebola Lockdown

Guinea has deployed security forces to the country's southwest in response to reports that Sierra Leoneans are crossing the border to flee an Ebola lockdown intended to stamp out the deadly disease, an official said Saturday.

The deployment, led by the head of the national gendarmerie, was sent late Friday night to the town of Forecariah, said gendarmerie spokesman Mamadou Alpha Barry, adding that the area is "secure."

Reacting to allegations by the Rivers State Governor HE Rotimi Amaechi, Of All Progressives Congress (APC), that INEC is manipulating the elections by not distributing Result Sheets to several Polling Units, the Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dame Gesila Khan said these claims were false and calculated to portray her in bad light with the public, GRAPHITTI NEWS reports.

“The police [are] arresting everyone that is arrestable, the police carrying ballot boxes, they are also aiding PDP supporters,” Amaechi said.

In an exclusive interview with SaharaTV, Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi says that he believes that today’s presidential elections held in River State were irreparably compromised, and the results must be cancelled.

Amaechi, all All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, alleges that interference on the part of the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has adversely influenced the result of the contest. Claiming the PDP is working with officials and security agents to rig the contest by withholding result sheets, Amaechi says the results of the election today in Rivers cannot be trusted.

Switzerland Launches Criminal Probe Into Illegal, 'Anti-Aging' Animal Cell Injections

Swiss health regulators have announced that they started a criminal investigation into clinics and people who offered illegal animal cell injection as an anti-aging treatment.

Authorities have said they are aware of at least 35 clinics giving the potentially dangerous procedures, and they don’t have permits to perform the injections, according to AFP.

Kenya's president has suspended four cabinet secretaries and 17 other senior officials to facilitate investigations into allegations of corruption.

A statement read by President Uhuru Kenyatta's spokesman Manoah Esipisu said Saturday the officers have been named in a confidential report by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

2015 Polls: INEC Stops Use Of Card Readers In Cross River

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has directed its officials in Cross River to stop the use of card readers.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Okey Ezeani, said the directive became necessary due to several complaints across the state on the card readers.

Aid workers are rushing into neighboring Guinea to try to stanch a worrisome rise in cases of the deadly Ebola virus, which has been slowed in Sierra Leone and been all but eradicated here. The mission is urgent because the coming rainy season could hamper travel to remote villages where the disease continues to emerge.

"I'm nervous but optimistic at heart that Guinea will follow the same trajectory" as Liberia and Sierra Leone where the disease has declined, said Jordan Tappero, director of the division of global health protection for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In The Shadow Of The Moon: Spectacular Plane’s View Of The Solar Eclipse (VIDEO)



The most surreal view of the solar eclipse was shared in a recently posted timelapse video showing a plane flying into the moon’s shadow on March 20.

The stunning video was shot 14 km above the Earth as the plane flew at a speed of 950 km/h.

The view from the plane’s window reveals the creeping shadow of the moon as the total solar eclipse begins.

The video has been speeded up for effect, with the darkness catching up to the plane, leaving viewers blown away by a racing shadow across their screens.

On March 20, people across Europe and other parts of the world gazed with awe at a rare type

of solar eclipse, which coincided with other celestial events such as the Spring Equinox and a supermoon.

The next simultaneous solar eclipse and Vernal Equinox is not expected to occur until 2034.

2015 National Assembly Polls: Top 8 Senators To Miss National Assembly Election


The seventh Senate which began May 29, 2011 is gradually coming to a close. The outgoing National Assembly — the Senate and the House of Representatives — has been widely criticized over its dismal performance.

Two Die In Suspected Boko Haram Attack On NE Gombe State Poll Stations



At least two people were killed in a suspected Boko Haram attack on polling stations in northeast Nigeria on Saturday, residents and an election official told AFP.
The attacks happened in the villages of Birin Bolawa and Birin Fulani in the Nafada district of Gombe state, which has been repeatedly targeted by the Islamists.
An election official, who requested anonymity, said: "We could hear the gunmen shouting, 'Didn't we warn you about staying away from (the) election?'"
