Nigeria's House of Representatives |
The
House of Representatives has directed its Committee on Education to review the
Federal Government’s directive to schools to resume on September 22 as against
October 13 over the Ebola Virus Disease in the country, according to Leadership & GN.
Deputy
House spokesman, Victor Ogene, in a statement said the directive was
necessitated by “growing concern” amongst the public, especially parents and
guardians of the pupils and students.
The
federal government gave the directive to private and public primary/secondary
schools in the country to give the country’s health authorities enough time to
ensure containment.
Ogene
noted that private school owners vehemently opposed the one-month shift in
resumption, compelling the Federal Ministry of Education to settle for a new
date of September 22, 2014, after a meeting with stakeholders in the sector.
He said the House
leadership resolved to mandate its Committee on Education to take another look
at the issue “in the overall interest of the pupils and students, parents and
guardians and the general wellbeing of the entire country.”
