FCT residents to elect 62 councilors for 6 area councils today |
Residents of the Federal
Capital Territory (FCT) will today cast their votes to elect chairmen and 62
councilors for the six area councils after the poll was shifted from March 19
earlier date, due to logistics.

FCT
Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, in a statement assured that the force
had taken steps to ensure that the election was conducted under a safe
atmosphere and that security would be provided for electoral materials and
officials.
Inalegwu
said there would be movement of restriction from 7:00am to 4:00pm and urged FCT
residents to cast their votes at polling units close to them.
The
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a statement said it
registered 1,020,799 voters across the councils and that as at last Tuesday
646,883 of them had collected their Permanent Voter Cards which will enable
them to vote.
An INEC statement said
accreditation and voting shall be continuous and simultaneous and the polling
units from 8am till 2pm, adding that the commission has trained 10,000 staff
drawn largely from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and tertiary
institutions, part from 44 groups accredited to observe the elections.
