Wife of the President,
Mrs. Aisha Buhari, on Thursday travelled to the United States where she was
scheduled to be the special guest at the 25th Anniversary of Zumunta
Association.
The
Punch report continues:
According
to a statement by her Director, Media, Zakari Nadabo, the event is scheduled to
take place at the Silver Spring Civic Centre in Maryland, Washington DC.
Nadabo
said the event with the theme, “Rebirth and Renewable,” would also be attended
by the Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, who would serve as the guest speaker among
other prominent Nigerians.
He
said Mrs. Buhari would also be hosted to a round table discussion by the United
States Institute of Peace to explore an in-depth conversation with a group of
US policy makers and an invested group of practitioners focused on Nigeria.
The
institute, according to him, is a congressionally funded, independent national
institute dedicated to the proposition that peace is possible, practical and
essential for the US and international security.
He
added that Mrs. Buhari, who was accompanied by wives of some state governors,
would also hold meetings at the George Mason University Washington during her
period of stay in the US.
The
President’s wife had earlier posted on her Facebook page that she got a warm
reception on arrival.
Photos
posted on her Facebook page showed her at the airport while receiving a bouquet
of flowers from a girl and posing for photos with Nigerians carrying the
country’s flag.
Her visit to the US came a few weeks after the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, accused her of refusing to visit the US because she was wanted there for corruption.
