Lagos and Ogun State governments have both declared Friday, November 7 work-free days.
The
Ogun State government on Wednesday declared Friday, November 7, as work-free
day to enable residents get their Permanent Voters Cards PVCs.
The
exercise, initiated by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is
to last three days and would enable citizens who registered in the previous
exercise to turn their Temporary Voters Cards TVCs to PVC.
The
collection of PVCs is scheduled to commence between the hours of 8.00 am to
4.00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Those
eligible to collect the PVCS are registered voters including citizens who lost
the TVCs but have their details on the database.
INEC
also explained that all prospective voters must be physically present at the
collection centres to get their cards as there will be no collection by proxy.
The
Ogun State Government said it is committed to ensuring that every resident
exercises his or her civic responsibility.
The
government advised all residents to take advantage of the work-free day and the
weekend to partake in the crucial exercise of obtaining their PVCs adding that
the presentation of the card is a pre-condition for all transactions with
Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including schools, in the
state.

Meanwhile, Governor Fashola has
declared Friday November 7, as holiday for all public servants in the state, so
that they can collect their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) from INEC.
“You have to register as a voter to be
eligible to vote. We must take it seriously to make sure our names are in the
voters register. Go to the polling centre to collect your PVC. No business or
job can be more important than to collect your PVC. Between November 7 and 9,
those who want to collect the PVC, should go out and collect them”, he said.
Those who lost their temporary voter’s card or
have not registered before, can do so when INEC conducts fresh registration
between 12 and 17 November.
