INEC issued Permanent Voter Cards |
Ahead
of the general elections, a woman in her mid-40s was yesterday arrested by the
Nigeria Police, Kaduna, while attempting to sell some Permanent Voter Cards
(PVCs) following an alarm raised by the women leader of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) of the Kabala ward, in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna
State.
The
women leader of the ward Hajiya Hajara Mairiga told the police that the suspect
whose name could not be ascertained as at press time, came to her house Monday
and told her that she has her PVC and some other people’s own for sale.
Leadership continues report:
Surprised
by the disclosure, the woman leader raised the alarm and the attention of the
police at the Kabala Costain was called to the matter and the suspected was
arrested.
The
case was thereafter transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)
of the police force where the suspect was detained for further investigation.
When
the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) DSP Abubakar Zubairu was contacted on
the subject matter, he confirmed it and said the woman suspect was in their
custody and investigation on the matter was on going.
According
to him, “the case with us is that the PDP woman leader of Kabala Costain is the
complainant. What happened is that one woman came to her with PVC for sale and
she raised alarm and called the police.
“The
woman suspect was arrested and is presently in our custody and investigation is
ongoing” he stated.
For
weeks now in Kaduna, there have been unconfirmed rumour of the buying and
selling of the PVCS, but until now no person was arrested.
The police however said if
the suspect is found guilty upon investigation, she will be charged and
prosecuted accordingly.
