President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday made
his first set of appointments in his administration when he appointed three
presidential aides.
The
president appointed Mr Femi Adesina, the incumbent president of the Nigerian
Guild of Editors (NGE) as his special adviser on media and publicity while
Malam Shehu Garba is now his senior special assistant on media and publicity.
These
appointments were contained in statement made available to Leadership last
night.
A
statement by his media team also announced that the president also appointed
Mallam Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure as the state chief of protocol.
Apart
from his being the president of the NGE, Adesina, until his appointment, was
also the managing director/editor-in-chief of The Sun newspapers.
Until
his appointment, Shehu served as the director, Media and Publicity of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council. He was also NGE
president 16 years ago.
Kazaure,
the new SCOP, is a career foreign service official who, until his appointment,
served in Aso Rock Villa as a special assistant on presidential matters.
By these appointments, Adesina
will take the position recently vacated by Dr Reuben Abati who was special
adviser on media and publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan, while
Shehu will play the role of Dr Doyin Okupe, who was senior special assistant to
Jonathan on public affairs.
