President Muhammadu
Buhari will on Thursday make a nationwide broadcast as part of the programme of
activities to mark Nigeria’s 55th Independence Anniversary. The president’s Special
Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, who made this known in a
statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, said the broadcast would be at 7a.m.
“All
electronic media stations are kindly requested to join the network services of
the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of
Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast,” the statement said.
As
part of present administration’s cost-saving measures, Mr. Buhari had approved ₦70
million for the event.
It
was reported that among the four major events approved for the anniversary
included the Juma’at prayers, slated to hold at the Abuja National Mosque on
September 25 and the Inter-denominational Thanksgiving Service holding at the
Abuja National Christian Worship Centre on September 27.
Other
events are the ceremonial Change of Guards slated for October 1 at the
Presidential Villa, children’s party on October 3 and the president’s address
to the nation at 7am on October 1.
