The High Court in Burundi
has announced the release of 75 out of more than 200 people who were detained
in connection with ongoing violence in the country. Others have received
shorter sentences than the prosecution had asked for.
Violent
protests began in April when President Pierre Nkurunziza announced he would
stand for a third term.
There've
been many unexplained killings in Burundi since his re-election, but the
government has come under increasing international pressure to avoid further
acts of repression.
