President Muhammadu
Buhari yesterday disclosed that his administration is talking with Niger Delta
militants through oil companies and law-enforcement agencies in order to
restore peace in the region.

He
disclosed this at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving the
outgoing German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michael Zenner.
Buhari
said the federal government was also studying the instruments of the Amnesty
Programme inherited from the previous administration in order to carry out
commitments made that were undelivered.
“We
understand their feelings. We are studying the instruments. We have to secure
the environment, otherwise, investments will not come. We will do our best for
the country,” he said.
Buhari
lauded the German government’s support to Nigeria on tackling insecurity as
well as in the on-going rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced
persons in the North-east.
He
also thanked Nigeria’s neighbours for their firm and unflinching support in the
fight against the Boko Haram insurgency.
Zenner
in his remarks said bilateral relations between Nigeria and his country had
improved in the past 12 months of the Buhari administration.
He
said his country was ready to help Nigeria rehabilitate the North-east to help
return displaced persons to their homes.
He
added that German businessmen were ready to invest in Nigeria, as conditions
for investment had been put in place.
The envoy also reiterated an invitation from Chancellor Angela Merkel to President Buhari to visit Germany.
