Chad's foreign minister
Moussa Faki was elected as the chairman of the African Union commission on
Monday, a Chadian official told Reuters on Monday at a summit of the 54-nation
body.

Faki's
main rival in the last round of voting at the AU, which is based in the Ethiopian
capital Addis Ababa, was Kenyan foreign minister Amina Mohamed. Senegal had
also fielded a candidate who was knocked out in an earlier round of voting.

Moussa,
born on June 21, 1960, in the town of Biltine in eastern Chad, belongs to the
Zaghawa ethnic group, the same group as President Idriss Déby. He is married
and is a father of five.
Moussa
attended Brazzaville University in the Republic of Congo where he studied law.
In
1986 he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Public Law, a Diploma on Higher Studies
in Public Law in 1992 and is fluent in French, English and Arabic.

Career
Moussa
is a member of the Patriotic Salvation Movement.
1982:
He went into exile when Hissein Habré took power on 07 June 1982 and joined the
Democratic Revolutionary Council headed by Acheikh Ibn Oumar.
1991:
He eventually returned to Chad on 07 June 1991, after Idriss Déby took power.
1996-1999:
He was director-general of two ministries before serving as the
Director-General of the National Sugar Society (SONASUT).
1999-2002:
He served as Director of President Déby's Cabinet from March 1999 to July 2002,
and he was the director of Déby's campaign in the May 2001 presidential
election.
2002:
Minister of Public Works and Transport in the government of Prime Minister
Haroun Kabadi
2003:
He was the Prime Minister of Chad from June 24, 2003 until February 4, 2005.
2007:
He was President of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Council from 2007 to
2008
2008:
He is currently a Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration in Chad
since April 2008
