Residents of Ikoyi Road in Obalende, Lagos Island, where the private medical facility that reported the first Ebola virus case in Nigeria is located, are now in the grip of fear, even as the Lagos State government said yesterday that it had buried the Liberian citizen who was the first victim of the communicable disease.

The man identified as Mr Patrick Sawyer, a WASH consultant at the Liberian Ministry of Finance, came aboard a flight from Monrovia via Lome on Sunday, July 20, 2014, about 4pm into Lagos State en route to Calabar, Cross River State, for a workshop with his colleagues. He was first taken to a private hospital (name withheld) at Obalende, Lagos, before being taken to a government hospital for further quarantine.
