Unknown gunmen attacked
the residence of the mayor of Burundi's capital, Bujumbura, Freddy Mbonimpa,
last night. BBC News reports that Mr
Mbonimpa and his family were not harmed but his vehicle was damaged and some
windows were smashed by bullets, he adds.
Meanwhile,
at least six people were killed and several others wounded in violence in the
city last night, police and witnesses said, AFP news agency reports.

This
comes a week after security forces launched a crackdown to search for weapons
in different areas of Bujumbura. The violence has subsided since the operation
began.
At
least 240 people have been killed in Burundi since protests began in April.
The cycle of violence began
with demonstrations against President Pierre Nkurunziza's bid for a third term.
