President Uhuru Kenyatta
yesterday clarified that Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru is neither a
wife nor a girlfriend of his. Uhuru said he has one wife and people should not
force another one on him.
“There
are those who keep on making wild allegations claiming that Waiguru is whatever
to me, or so many other things, but I have mine and I don’t need another one,”
said Uhuru.
The Star report continues:
Uhuru
was addressing residents of Eldoret during a stopover and caused laughter from
the crowd when he said those still looking for more wives should do so without
spreading lies about him.
Uhuru
said those who have proof of corruption against Waiguru or any other minister
should forward the evidence and action will be taken by the government,
“regardless of whoever it is.”
President
Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday told vocal URP legislators he will not be forced to
make a decision on the fate of Cabinet Secretaries suspended because of graft.
He
launched an attack on Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, asking him to stop
destabilising the government and concentrate on matters like CDF in his
constituency.
Kenyatta
says the matter of the issue of the suspended ministers or any other ministers
in government lies within his prerogative and no one will coerce him to either
sack or reinstate CSs.
“I
did not consult them when I appointed the ministers and will make my own decision
not based on the noise by some people,” said Kenyatta when he addressed leaders
from the North Rift region during a meeting at the Eldoret State Lodge on
Sunday.
But
Keter responded, telling the President to stop hitting at him because of
embattled CS Anne Waiguru.
“Yes,
he did not consult me when he appointed Waiguru and the others. But as an MP I
was not only consulted but I was lobbied during the vetting of the ministers so
that we approve them in Parliament,” said Keter, speaking to the Star on the
phone.
Reinstatement
of the suspended CSs and civil servants, especially those from Rift Valley, was
one of the key demands by leaders from the region as a condition for supporting
Jubilee at the 2017 polls.
Another
key demand was that he must support Ruto and journalist Sang to overcome the
case at the ICC.
Other
demands were that Uhuru should strengthen the NCPB and announce good maize
prices; write off Sh500 million debts at New KCC and revert the company to
farmers; tarmac key roads in the region; and expand the Moi Referral Hospital.
The
suspended CSs who are close allies of DP William Ruto include Felix Koskei of
Agriculture and Davies Chirchir of Energy.
MPs
from the region tabled more than 10 demands, which they wanted the President to
tackle, and Uhuru responded to all the demands, which had been earlier made
public by Keter.
Keter
was absent at the meeting, where he was accused of being used to divide
Jubilee.
Uhuru
said Keter should desist from being a puppet for some individuals with their
own interests.
Uhuru held a private
meeting with key leaders including Governors, Senators and MPs before he
addressed more than 1,000 grassroots politicians from Uasin Gishu, Nandi,
Trans-Nzoia and Elgeyo Marakwet.
