2015 Presidential/National Assembly Polls: Nigeria's Land, Sea Borders Shut

Comrade Abba Moro

With less than 72 hours to Saturday’s presidential election, the federal government has ordered the immediate closure of all land and sea borders as part of efforts to curtail movements in and out of the country.

The order was contained in a statement signed yesterday in Abuja by the permanent secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, on behalf of the minister of interior, Comrade Abba Moro.

The statement announced that the closure of these borders took effect from midnight of yesterday, Wednesday, March 25, to midnight Saturday, March 28.

The release explained that the closure of the borders is aimed at guaranteeing peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national elections as well as national security.
It also said the Nigeria Immigration Service had been directed to ensure that non-Nigerians did not participate in the electoral process.
