Explosion at Polling Booth in Enugu |
There has been an explosion at the polling unit located inside WTC primary school, Enugu north
local government, in the capital of Enugu state.
A resident close to the school told reporters
that she “heard a bang some minutes after 9am” but did not know the cause
or other details.
TheCable reports:
Journalists were denied access to the scene as
well.
As at the time of filing this report, Dan
Bature, commissioner of police in the state, had arrived at the site of
the incident but he had not made any comment.
The police anti-bomb squad unit said it
was on ground and had “carried out two controlled explosions”.
Bature eventually confirmed the blasts, also
adding that the anti-bomb squad defused two bombs at the school.
“Three bombs were found in a Honda Accord car
with registration number KUJ 971 ABJ,” he said.
“One of the bombs exploded while we have
successfully defused two,” he said.
“It was an improvised explosive device. We do
not know who planted it. The suspects abandoned the car at the entrance
gate.”
Bature assured the public
that the police was “working assiduously to unravel the identity of the
suspects and get the area safe.”
