Appeals judges at the
International Criminal Court have rejected a request for the temporary release
of Ivory Coast's former President Laurent Gbagbo on health grounds, Reuters
news agency reports.
Mr
Gbagbo, 70, is accused of plunging his country into civil war rather than
relinquishing power after losing a presidential run-off vote in 2010.
His
trial has been scheduled to start in November.
Cote
d’Ivoire ex-President Laurent Gbagbo - who is in the custody of the
International Criminal Court (ICC) - suffers from post-traumatic stress
disorder, and an unspecified physical ailment, court documents show, Reuters
news agency.
ICC
judges have rejected his bid to be temporarily freed on health grounds as he
awaits trial on charges of crimes against humanity.
The
judges said he posed a flight risk and could obstruct investigations, Reuters
reports.
He
has been detained at The Hague since November 2011, and will be the first
former president to stand trial at the ICC.
Some
3,000 people were killed in violence after Mr Gbagbo refused to accept defeat
in the 2010 polls.
