Veteran
Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama has accused the government of two recent attempts
on his life

There have been reports
of renewed clashes between Mozambican government forces and the main opposition
Renamo party. Police
say the clashes resulted in several deaths but would not specify the number.
They
deny reports in the local media that 200 people have been killed since last
week.
BBC
News report continues:
Tensions
in Mozambique have been escalating ever since a peace process which was
supposed to lead to the integration of Renamo fighters into the police and the
military collapsed in August.
The
latest violence began a week ago in the centre of the country in an area where
Renamo had recently installed a military base.
Veteran
Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama has accused the government of two recent attempts
on his life, including an attack on his convoy in which 24 people died.
There are fears that this
increasing tension could impact on Mozambique's economic growth - or worse
still that the country could descend into civil war again.
