The Nigerian army has
released 275 people arrested on suspicion of being members of the militant
Islamist group Boko Haram, an official has said.
BBC
Africa Live report continues:
They were
freed after an investigation showed they had no links with the militants
and handed over to the governor of north-eastern Borno state.
"They
included 142 men, 49 women, 22 boys and 50 girls. Two Nigeriens and
two Cameroonians," a spokesman for the governor Usman Kumo told
the BBC Hausa service.
It
comes amid accusations by Amnesty International that the military has killed
more than 8,000 detainees as part of its fight against Boko Haram.
Earlier
this month, the campaign group criticized the reinstatement of an army general
it accuses of war crimes.
The military said the
allegations were being investigated.
