Rivers Warns Illegal Occupants To Vacate Govt Property

The Rivers State Government has warned illegal occupants of government property to vacate such property or be ready to face prosecution.

The state Commissioner for Housing, Emma Okah, who issued this warning in Port Harcourt on Thursday, explained that he was giving a second notice to illegal occupiers of government property to avoid any doubt on government readiness to take action against defaulters.

Okah pointed out that the warning was aimed at checking the rising invasion of government houses by illegal occupants, warning that apart from being evicted, they (illegal Occupiers) would be dragged to court.

Media report continues:
He disclosed that the state government would begin to recover houses from illegal occupants within the next few weeks.

“These illegal occupants are insensitive and destructive. They cheat the state and the tax payers by not paying rent and in their viciousness, they vandalize public property without remorse. We owe a duty to sanitize our system in the spirit of the new vision of our state,” the commissioner added.

He further warned the public to be wary of fraudulent persons who disguised as state government agents and involved themselves in the sale of government houses.

According to him, those involved in such an act would be made to face the wrath of the law.

Okah, however, stressed that the Ministry of Housing was committed to tackling the housing deficiency in the state in line with the new vision of the state government.
He maintained that the Chief Nyesom Wike’s administration was determined to provide affordable houses for all classes of income earners.
