‘Endemic Corruption May Change Buhari’s Choice Of Ministers’

President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet may not materialize soon if his level of anti-corruption hurdle for prospective ministers is not reduced. Speaking on Liberty Television Current Affairs programme, ‘Perspective’, monitored in Kaduna, the participants submitted that corruption is not fought with a bang, but by a gradual and systematic approach driven by a leader who has integrity and the political will.

They, however, acknowledged that Mr President possesses these qualities.
Many of the contributors observed that Nigeria is endemically corrupt, especially with the 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rule.

They, therefore, averred that it will be difficult if not impossible to find the calibre of ministers that Buhari wants to serve in his cabinet, men and women who are stainless.
In his contribution to the discourse, a political analyst and columnist with the Punch Newspaper, Uche Egwe, said corruption mutates and that by now, most corrupt Nigerians are going underground and hiding their loots because of the fear of Mr President, to the extent that some of these same names may come up for appointments in the near future.
Egwe stated that the international nature and sophistication of corruption are overwhelming and advised Mr President to make do with the best in the present circumstance, maintaining that sometimes, you need corrupt people to fight corruption.
He stressed that it will be difficult to find saints in today’s Nigeria.
