A South African court has found eight
policemen guilty of the murder of a Mozambican taxi driver who died after being
dragged behind a police van in Johannesburg in 2013. The incident, recorded on video by a
bystander, caused widespread revulsion.
BBC
report that Judge Bert Bam said there was no doubt that the police could have
foreseen that Mido Macia, 27, would have died from being dragged behind a
police van while handcuffed. The police officers had pleaded not guilty, and
denied handcuffing him to the van and said he had fallen from the van and the
handcuffs had "accidentally hooked onto the back".
