Authorities
in the northern Nigerian city of Kano have been giving more details about a
fire which led to at least seven female students being killed and 25 others
injured at a government-run boarding school last night.
Most
of the victims died as a result of stampede while trying to escape through two
exits at the hostel in a village near Kano, officials said.
The
whole hostel was completely gutted by the blaze, and it took fire-fighters
hours to bring it under control.
The school has been closed
and authorities have ordered a full investigation into the cause of the fire.
