The Obafemi Awolowo
University (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun State, has been closed down indefinitely,
following continued protests by students. The students were protesting alleged poor
living condition in their halls of residence.
However,
the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, refuted the
claim that the institution had been shut down.
He
said the authorities only gave the students a mid-semester break.
For
two days that the protest lasted, many students and workers were stranded as
there was heavy traffic at the institution’s main gate.
According to the students,
epileptic power and poor water supply had made the campus not conducive for
learning.
