China's President Xi
Jinping has arrived in Zimbabwe's capital, Harare, at the start of a two-day
visit. For
a government desperate for foreign direct investment and struggling to raise
revenue he is a welcome guest.
BBC Africa Live reports that there
are several bid deals, spanning manufacturing, agriculture and mining, waiting
to be signed.
But
what worries some is that such deals have been signed before and nothing
tangible has materialized. Government sources say the Chinese are hesitant to
pump money into Zimbabwe's uncertain political climate.
President Robert Mugabe is
turning 92 in three months and the Chinese want guarantees that their
investments would be safe if there was a change in leadership.
