About 4,000 people have died from Ebola in Sierra Leone
|
Sierra Leone has
recorded zero new Ebola infections for the first time since the outbreak was
declared in May last year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). But authorities are
keen to stress that this isn't the end of the epidemic. That won't come until
six weeks of no new Ebola cases in all the three affected countries.
Neighbouring
Guinea reported three new infections last week, Liberia has been on zero since
last month.
BBC reports that the
WHO says the use of rapid response teams and strong community involvement in
tracing sick people and their close contacts is helping to finally bring an end
to the outbreak.
