Somalia is facing a new
political crisis as 96 MPs have signed a motion to impeach President Hassan
Sheikh Mohamud, who was elected by parliament in September 2012. It is not clear whether
the motion by the rebel MPs - to be debated in the coming weeks - will get
enough support.
President
Mohamud has had a lot of support in parliament, but he has been losing
popularity over accusations that he is trying to establish his own power bases
across the country as regional assemblies are being set up.
Last month, all politicians
agreed that it was not possible to hold popular "one-man one-vote"
elections next year - a promise the government had made to its foreign backers.
