To
celebrate World Elephant Day, Wildlife Direct, whose CEO is
Kenyan wildlife activist Paula Kahumbu, will celebrate the event with an
excursion into Oltukai Conservancy with school children and teachers, where
they will meet elephants.
BBC Monitoring reports Kahumbu said in a commentary published in privately-owned The Star newspaper the excursion is "an effort to win these young hearts and create a generation of wildlife warriors." Kahumbu further commended Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta for passing laws that impose the most severe punishments for poaching in the world. She called on the president to go further by declaring lions, rhinos and elephants national treasures.
