Western powers must take
responsibility for the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean as they had played a
key role in destabilizing Libya, South Africa's President Jacob Zuma has said. NATO bombed Libya in
2011, helping armed groups to overthrow long-serving ruler Muammar Gaddafi.
"It's
as a result of the interference," Mr Zuma told journalists after meeting
diplomats in the capital, Pretoria, yesterday.
"When
Africa was saying it had a road map to work with the Libyans to change the
situation, all of that was ignored and today those who were part of destabilizing
that part of the world - they don't want to accept refugees. It is their
responsibility. They caused it. They must address it," he added.
