The All Progressives Congress (APC) at the weekend
swept to victory in the governorship and House of Assembly elections conducted
across the country.
Based on multiple sources, GRAPHITTI NEWS reports that
governorship election was conducted in 29 states while House of Assembly
elections held across the 36 states of the federation.
According to the results released yesterday by the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC won in 19 states while
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in the remaining 9 states.
The states won by the APC, according to INEC, include
Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Katsina, Adamawa, Jigawa, Kano, Nasarawa, Sokoto, Kebbi,
Yobe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Niger, Borno, Benue, Kwara, Plateau, and Zamfara states.
The PDP, however, claimed victory in Enugu, Ebonyi,
Rivers, Gombe, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Abia, Taraba (PDP leading), and Delta states.
Lagos
In Lagos State, former accountant-general of the state
and APC candidate in the election, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, polled 811,994, votes
to beat the candidate of the PDP, Mr Jimi Agbaje, who polled 659,788 to come
second in the election.
In a keenly contested poll, Ambode won by 152,206
votes and will take over from Governor Babatunde Fashola as governor on May 29,
2015, as the APC stretches its dominance in Lagos.
INEC returning officer in the state, Prof Isaac
Adewole, who is the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, declared Ambode
winner of the election.
Agbaje accepted defeat and congratulated Ambode but
the state PDP rejected the result, citing ‘controversial’
circumstances within which the elections were conducted in the state as
reasons.
The media aide of the governor-elect, Idowu Ajanaku,
told one of our correspondents on the telephone that Agbaje called
to congratulate Ambode at 6.50pm on Sunday.
“Mr. Jimi Agbaje called at exactly 6.50pm to
congratulate Mr. Ambode. He prayed for Mr. Ambode and told him that he was
looking forward to a more prosperous Lagos, ” Ajanaku said.
Shortly after being declared winner, Ambode in his
acceptance speech, extended his hand of fellowship to Agbaje by urging him to
join in making Lagos a better place.
The governor-elect, who commended Agbaje for
congratulating him , added that his government would not victimise those who
voted against him.
He said, “To my main opponent, Mr. Jimi Agbaje of the
PDP, I thank you for a keen contest and invite you, alongside other
governorship candidates, to join hands with me in moving Lagos forward.”
Ambode also lauded the people of the state
for voting him and the APC, adding that by aligning Lagos with the centre,
unprecedented development would come to the state.
He gave special thanks to a former
Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Babatunde Fashola for
believing in him.
Ambode said like former United States President,
Abraham Lincoln, his government would be run “with malice toward none and with
charity for all.”
Meanwhile, the losing PDP candidate, Agbaje, has
quickly congratulated his victorious rival. In his twitter handle, he wrote: “I
just called Akinwunmi Ambode to congratulate him on his victory. I wish him
well and pray he will be successful in guiding this state.”
Speaking later with Channels Television, he said he
would not be running for governor again – after losing a second time, noting
that there are other ways he could serve his community apart from being
governor.
Niger
The All Progressives Congress APC Governorship
candidate Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has been declared the winner of the 2015
governorship election in Niger State .
Declaring Abubakar Bello as the winner in the results
announced about 3.40 am on Monday, the chief returning officer, Prof.
Abdulganiyu Ambali, said Bello scored 593, 702 votes to defeat his closest
opponent and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Umar
Mohammed Nasko who scored 239, 772 votes.
From the analysis of the results, the APC candidate
won in 23 out of the 25 local government areas of the state.
Prof Ambali said having met all the constitutional
requirements by scoring 25 per cent in all the local government areas and
scored the highest votes cast, Abubakar Sani Bello was so declared as
governor-elect for Niger State in the contest that had 10 candidates.
Nasarawa
Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the Saturday gubernatorial election
in Nasarawa State.
He polled 308, 536 votes to beat his closest opponent,
Mr. Labaran Maku of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who got a total
of 186, 151 votes.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP),
Alhaji Yusuf Agabi, who rather had a dismal outing, polled a total of 115832
votes to emerge distant third.
Declaring the result at about 4:30am Monday morning at
the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in
Lafia, the state governorship returning officer, Prof. Abdulmumini Rafindadi
said having scored more votes than six other contestants in the race, Governor
Almakura has been returned as governor for another period of four years.
Addressing journalists on his victory at the Lafia
Government House, Governor Al-Makura said the victory was for
Nasarawa people who defied the odds to restate their resolve and commitment to
change.
He urged his supporters to be civil and humble in
victory and desist from celebrating in any manner that would be provocative in
the interest of peace and harmony, adding that he was elected to be a governor
to all.
However, Mr. Labaran Maku on the other hand, criticized
the role played by INEC and security officials during the exercise, saying they
compromised on the principles of fair play by colluding to rig the election.
In
a swift reaction, the director general of Al-Makura campaign organization, Musa
Illu said the exercise was free, fair and devoid of any irregularities and
urged the former Minister of Information to be magnanimous in defeat and accept
the verdict of the electorate.
Ebonyi
Ebonyi State deputy governor and PDP candidate, Chief
Dave Umahi, was declared winner of Ebonyi State.
Umahi polled 289, 867 votes to defeat his closest
rival, the Labour Party candidate, Sir Edward Nkwegu, who polled 124, 817
votes. The APC candidate,
Senator Juluis Ucha, got 27, 583 votes.
Sokoto
In Sokoto State, APC candidate and Speaker, House of
Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, won the governorship election,
garnering 647,609 votes to beat PDP’s Senator Abdullahi Wali who polled 269,074
votes.
Making the declaration at about 07:12 pm at the Sultan
Maccido Institute of Qur’anic and General Studies, Sokoto, venue of the State
Collation Centre, the state returning officer, Professor Abubakar Abdullahi
Bagudu, commended the people for their residence and patience.
In his submission, Bagudu said a total of 958, 736
votes were cast with 926, 682 valid and 320, 54 invalid.
Sokoto state’s governor elect, Alhaji Aminu Waziri
Tambuwal, has promised to provide good governance in the state with utmost
transparency and fairness. Just as he extends hand of fellowship to all
citizens of the state.
He made the promise in company of his deputy, Alhaji
Aliyu Ahmed, in Sokoto on Sunday night while delivery his acceptance speech
after been declared winners of Saturday election.
While giving thanks to Allah for the victory, Tambuwal
thanked the people of the state for their remarkable display of abiding
confidence in their dear party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Myself and the Deputy Governor-Elect are truly
humbled by your sustained show of support, trust and confidence in the face of
orchestrated provocations and attempts to subvert the Will of the PEOPLE, we
remain grateful for honouring us with your MANDATE.
“ This is a responsibility that we do not take
lightly, and we will endeavour to continue to provide good governance in Sokoto
State with utmost transparency and fairness.”
Tambuwal said “We make a solemn pledge to you today
that this government shall be fair to one and all, and shall at all times work
hard to meet the yearnings of our people for responsive and responsible
governance.
He added “as the outgoing Speaker of the House of
Representatives, I understand the expectations of my immediate Constituency and
the wider national political family in my new Public Service engagement.”
The Speaker of the House of Representatives said they
have nothing but respect for their political opponents, commending them for
running such a competitive campaign which opened their eyes to so many new
perspectives regarding democratic process.
“Our hand of friendship is again extended to all those
who wish to join us in the great task of moving Sokoto State forward. “
He said they have no illusions about the fact that
their success at the polls was the result of the goodwill, perseverance and
enduring capacity of the people to make the right choices when the chips are
down.
“ We therefore owe our victory to the generosity of a
great many people who have given their energy and resources to make this day
possible.
“In fact, this victory is the culmination of a
process began by our great leader, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr.
Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, whose remarkable foresight and towering political
acumen have garnered the All Progressives Congress (APC) such unassailable
sympathy in the hearts of the people.”
Tambuwal assured the out going governor that his
contributions to the development of Sokoto State will remain evergreen in their
memory. “As I reiterated during our electioneering campaigns, Governor
Wamakko’s laudable programmes for the development of Sokoto State shall be
sustained and consolidated.
“On behalf of all the elected leaders of our people in
Sokoto State, I wish to commend him for his fearless leadership, admirable
patriotism and unique humility.”
The governor-elect promised to work with the traditional institution as the government under him will continue to cherish every valuable input that the institution will make to the government.

While promising the President-Elect of their
continuous support , Tambuwal said they have started a new journey in Sokoto
State and in Nigeria at large.

needs of the people. The incoming President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
General Muhammadu Buhari is a tested Leader who appreciates the enormity of the
challenge of NATIONAL RENEWAL which the mandate freely given to him charts
clearly for him and his team.”
Bauchi
In the same vein, Barrister Mohammed Abubakar of the
APC won Bauchi State governorship election. He scored 654,934 votes to defeat
his challenger, Auwal Jatau of the PDP who scored 282,650 votes.
Abubakar won in 19 out of 20 local government areas
(LGAs) of the state to defeat Jatau who won only in Bogoro LGA where he polled
16,980 votes to APC’s 9,914.
The Bauchi State returning officer, Prof Mohammed
Kabiru Faruk, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State,
announced the results at the INEC office in Bauchi.
Ogun
Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has
succeeded in his reelection bid as he was declared winner of Saturday’s
governorship election.
The election held across the 20 local governments in
the state, saw Amosun defeating his closest rival, Gboyega Isiaka of the
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by 306,988 votes to 201,440 votes.
In the results of the governorship election declared
yesterday, in Abeokuta, the State capital by Prof Duro Oni, deputy vice-chancellor
of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and INEC’s Returning officer for the state,
14 political parties, including APC, PDP, SDP, KOWA, LP, NCP, ID, DPP, CPP,
APGA, PPA, PPN, UDP and UPN, took part in the contest and the candidate of All
Progressives Congress (APC) had the highest number of votes cast.
While declaring the results yesterday, the Returning
Officer said that the candidate of APC, who is also the sitting governor,
Ibikunle Amosun was the winner, “having polled the highest number of votes
cast in the state and thereby returned and declared winner of the election.”
Oyo
Results from Oyo State indicated that Governor Abiola
Ajimobi broke the second term jinx when he defeated 11 governorship candidates
of other political parties.
Announcing the result, the state Chief Returning
Officer, Prof Ayobami Salami, disclosed that the governor garnered 327,310
votes to beat his arch-rival and former state governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja
of the Accord Party who polled 254,522 votes.
Labour Party’s Alao-Akala, also a former governor, got
182,723 votes while PDP’s Senator Teslim Folarin polled 78,119 votes.
Salami who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor
(Administration), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, said
the governor won in 20 LGAs, Accord Party and Labour Party won in six LGAs of
the state respectively.
Interestingly, the defeated governorship candidates of
the PDP, Senator Folarin; Accord Party candidate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, and
Seyi Makinde of the Social Democratic Party lost in their LGAs to the APC.
Even before the final result was released, the PDP
candidate, Folarin, had conceded defeat to whoever won the election. Folarin,
in a statement aired on a private radio station in Ibadan, noted that with the
results being released by INEC, his party could not win the election.
Delta
In Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of the PDP was
gradually coasting to victory at the time of filing this report, having won 10
LGAs convincingly out of the 11 so far released by INEC.
By this result, Senator Okowa had lost only one local
government (Udu) to Labour Party candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, while others results
were still being awaited.
Kano
In Kano State, the deputy governor and APC candidate,
Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, won with wide margin, with APC candidates also
cleaning out all the 44 state assembly seats.
According to the election results collated at INEC
Kano office and read out by the state returning officer, Professor Hamisu
Muhammad Abubakar, and compiled by our reporter at the INEC office, Ganduje
polled 1,546,241, while PDP got 510,524.
At the time of filing this report Kano INEC collation
officer for governorship election was yet to announce the winner.
Kaduna
Victory in the governorship poll in Kaduna State went
the way of Malam Nasir el-Rufai of the APC who recorded a landslide win against
the incumbent, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of the PDP.
The former FCT minister, who addressed journalists and
a mammoth crowd at his campaign office in Kaduna shortly after he was declared
winner by INEC, said that much responsibility had been reposed in him by Kaduna
State people and he could not afford to let them down.
Kwara
In Kwara State, INEC declared Governor AbdulFatah
Ahmed of the APC winner with 295,832 to beat the PDP candidate, Senator Simeon
Ajibola, who scored 115,220.
The candidate of the Labour Party, Dr. Mike Omotosho
scored 2,973 to emerge the second runner-up.
The returning officer and vice chancellor of the
Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof Musbau Akanji, announced the
results at the INEC collation centre in Ilorin, the state capital.
Kebbi
INEC yesterday declared Senator Atiku Bagudu of the
APC winner of the governorship election. He polled 477,376 votes while General
Sarkin Yaki Bello of PDP polled 293,443. APC won in 19 LGAs and PDP in two
LGAs.
The returning officer, Prof Mohammad Lawal Ahmadu,
announced the result at the state collation centre, Waziri Umaru Federal
Polytechnic in Birnin Kebbi.
This is the first time in the history of Kebbi that
the opposition has defeated a ruling party. The announcement was greeted with
wild jubilation in the state.
Plateau
The All Progressive Congress gubernatorial candidate
for Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has been declared winner, having scored 564,
913 votes.
Declaring the results in the early hours of Monday,
the returning officer for the governorship election, Emmanuel Kucha, who is the
Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Makurdi, said Mr. Lalong
scored the highest number of votes cast in the Saturday election.
Plateau State has been a stronghold of the ruling
Peoples Democratic Party since 1999. The party won in the state in the
presidential election of March 28.
Mr. Lalong defeated the PDP candidate, Gyang Pwajok, a
serving senator representing Plateau north in the National Assembly, who polled
520,627 votes.
The APC candidate won 11 out of the 17 council areas
of the state.
Mr. Lalong defeated Mr. Pwajok in his home council
area, Jos north, scoring 117,443 votes; while Mr. Pwajok’s kinsmen gave him
61,391 votes in Jos north.
Other council areas that gave the APC victory were
Mikang local government, hometown of Mr. Pwajok’s Director General of Campaign
Daniel Kumi, Bokkos, Mangu, Kanam, Jos east, Langtang north, Quanpan and Wase
Local Government Area.
Mr. Pwajok also won in Barkinladi, Riyom, Bassa, Kanke
Langtang south and Jos south, which is the council area of incumbent Governor
Jonah Jang.
Following the announcement of the results, which gave
opposition political party victory, security has been stepped up in most
flashpoints within Jos metropolis.
The governorship and states House of Assembly
elections in Plateau State claimed the life of a voter in Jos north council
area, who allegedly attempted to create commotion at a polling unit, and was
shot dead by a security agent.
Meanwhile, the elections were adjudged peaceful,
however characterized by low turnout of votes, with a few cases of
irregularities recorded in some polling units; particularly cases of over
voting in most polling units, which APC agent refusing to sign results sheets
from Riyom, Jos south and Bassa local government areas where the PDP was
victorious.
Inconclusive polls in Imo, Abia
INEC yesterday declared the governorship poll in the
two South East states of Imo and Abia inconclusive.
In Imo, Governor Rochas was said to have been leading
in 20 LGAs out of 27 LGAs,
In the result announced by the state’s returning
officer, Professor Ibidapo Obe, Governor Okorocha polled a total of 385,071,
while his closest rival and PDP’s Emeka Ihedioha scored 306,142.
The election was declared inconclusive because there
were some perceived irregularities in results in some LGAs.
In Abia also, there was controversy after an
international observer alleged irregularities in some areas, prompting INEC to
declare the poll inconclusive.
Yobe
INEC has declared Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of the APC
winner of the governorship election having scored 334,847 votes to beat former
minister of police affairs, Adamu Maina Waziri of PDP who polled 179,700 votes.
The returning officer, Prof Ibrahim Njudi announced
the result at the INEC headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital.
Rivers
Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
Barr Nyesom Wike has been declared winner of last Saturday’s governorship
election in Rivers state, polling a total of 1,029,102 votes
amounting to 87.77 percent to beat Dr Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressives
Congress, APC who had 124,896 votes amounting to 10.65 percent to come a
distant second.
The Returning Officer, Prof Faraday Oruwense announced
the results at the Rivers state office of the Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC in Port Harcourt in the early hours of Monday, saying
that Prince Tonye Princewill of the Labour Party (LP), polled
10,142 (0.86 per cent) to come third.
INEC ordered a re-run in 16 wards in six LGAs,
including Abua/Odual, Gokana, Tai, Eleme, Asari-Toru and parts of Obio/Akpoare.
However, results so far collated showed that the PDP’s
Barrister Nyesom Wike was leading his APC’s Hon Dakuku Peterside, having won in
15 out of 17 LGAs.
Akwa Ibom
INEC yesterday declared PDP’s Mr. Udom Gabriel
Emmanuel the winner of the governorship poll.
Udom polled 996, 079 votes across 31 LGAs to beat
APC’s Umana Okon Umana, who secured 89, 865 votes.
Protests broke out among APC supporters who protested
what they termed flawed election in the state, forcing the police and other
security operatives to launch offensive against hoodlums who took over part of
Oron Road and other adjoining streets, who vented their anger on motorists and
supporters of the ruling PDP.
The state REC), Mr Austin Eni Okojie, announced the
result under tight security at the state INEC office on Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo,
the state capital.
Enugu
PDP’s Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was yesterday declared
winner of the gubernatorial election held in Enugu State. He scored 482,277 to
defeat the candidate of APC, Okey Ezea, who scored 43,837.
Results announced by INEC showed that Ugwuanyi won in
all the 17 LGAs of the state. The APC has demanded the poll’s cancellation,
saying no credible election took place in the state
Benue
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) in Benue state, Chief Samuel Ortom has won the governorship
election, defeating the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Terhemen Tarzoor.
Candidates of other political parties including APGA,
ACPN, APA, LP, NNPP and SDP contested the governorship seat in the agrarian
state.
Ortom, a former minister of aviation, and Minister of
State for Industry, Trade and Investment is from Guma local government
area of the state.
Recall that he had lost the PDP ticket during the last
primary election before he defected to APC and won the governorship ticket of
the party.
However, the governorship election was conducted
across the 23 local government areas of the state where APC won in 14 LGAs,
while PDP got victory in 9 local government areas respectively.
The returning officer of the governorship election in
the state, Prof. Hayford Babale Mafuyai announced Ortom as the winner in the
state having scored the highest total number of votes in the contest.
Ortom (APC) polled a total votes of 422, 932 to defeat
Tarzoor (PDP) who scored 313, 878 with a wide margin of 109, 054.
Adamawa
The APC candidate Senator Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla
Bindow has won the election with 362,329 to beat SDP’s Engineer Markus Gundiri
who got 181, 806 while PDP’s Nuhu Ribadu polled 98,917 to emerge third.
The
result, however, came with an element of surprise as the Ribadu trailed could
not even win his home Yola South LGA.
Taraba
The Taraba state governorship election Returning
Officer, Prof. Muhamed Kyari has cancelled result from Donga local government
area of Taraba state.

Returning Officer, Mallam Al-Isah Sanusi showed that elections from the local
government was marred by violent and snatching of electoral materials within
five polling units.
Donga local government area has 165 polling units, the
Returning Officer reported that cases of election malpractices occurred only in
5 poling units.
The cancelation of results from Donga lead to argument
between the PDP state Agent, Rabo Usman and Prof Kyari the state Returning
officer at the Collection Center, Rabo Usman pleaded with the Returning Officer
to cancel only the affected five polling units instead of canceling the whole
local government results.
Kyari finally over ruled that the Donga local
government area result stand cancel.
Out of the 15 local government areas results presented
Vanguard findings showed that the PDP was leading overwhelmingly and may defeat
APC,

at press time Sadauna local government result was yet to be presented hence the
