Flakka: Is This The Most Dangerous Drug In The World?

US police officers are struggling to keep a grip on a new drug epidemic that has made users have sex with trees and believe they are the mythical god Thor. Flakka use is rampant in parts of the USA and there are fears the substance is on its way to Britain. The powerful new synthetic drug has been compared to Bath Salts that notoriously turned users into 'demonic zombies'.

Daily Star reports officers have been out in force in Florida where flakka use is on the rise at an alarming rate.

Worrying footage posted online shows manic flakka users running naked into traffic and dancing in rainfall while in the grips of psychosis.

A user reportedly tried to have sex with a tree after taking the drug before he ripped out a taser from his body fired at him by police.

Other bizarre incidents linked to the drug include users trying to break into police stations as they thought they were being chased while another bit their own baby.

Flakka use is wrecking havoc in communities with 300 cases recorded in one Florida county in the first three months of 2015 alone.

In 2014, there were reportedly just 200 cases.

Experts say the increase in flakka use is down to its price.

The addictive synthetic, which gives users a sense of euphoria and stimulation, costs a fraction of the going street rate of cocaine or other similar drugs.

But the effect on the body can be devastating and the chemicals found in flakka can leave users with permanent changes to the way their brain functions.

According to the Washington Post, body temperature can sky rocket to deadly levels and individuals can believe they are being chased or are on fire.

Such is their paranoia that there have been occasions where four or five officers have struggled to restrain a flakka user.

There is currently no advice on flakka use by the UK-based drug's charity Frank but it places bath salts – the drug closely related to flakka – within the legal highs category.

Sheriff Scott Israel said: "I don't know if we've ever had anything that's been imported into Florida that's been more dangerous.

"Sometimes it takes five or six deputies to subdue a person.

"It's easy to get hold of, it's affordable, and it's deadly. It's something we're taking very, very seriously."

DRUGS THAT CAUSED PANIC

Mephedrone

Street names: Meow Meow, MKat, Drone

MKat first came to attention in 2010 and was a legal high before the government classified it as a Class B drug.

The drug is popular within the party scene but has been linked to bizarre behaviour.

A 19-year-old from London reportedly stabbed his mother before chopping off his own penis while high on MKat.

Krokodil

This is scary stuff.

It's regarded as the most deadly drug in the world – if it can even be called a drug.

It emerged in Russia towards the beginning of the Millennium and was used by addicts as a cheap alternative to heroin.

The problem is it literally eats away at flesh and leaves users with horrendous open wounds.

Bath salts

This drug hit the headlines in 2011 after footage emerged of users acting 'possessed' in broad daylight.
Bath salts use has tailed off since then and records show flakka use has taken its place.
