Only
100 candidates will be picked out of the 943 first class graduates from various
universities who sat for yesterday’s Presidential Special Scholarship for
Innovation and Development (PRESSID) in Abuja.
There
were anxieties as many of the candidates were of the hope that they would make
the list.
The Nation reports the
examination, which is being coordinated by the National Universities Commission
(NUC), was initiated three years ago by President Goodluck Jonathan to train
critical mass of experts, where the nation is lacking, especially in the area
of science and technology.
A member of the PRESSID
implementation committee, Prof. Olurotimi Tayo, who supervised the conduct of
the examination, disclosed that 943 first class graduates, who were screened
from over 2000 who applied for the aptitude test, participated yesterday.
