*Elections
to hold in all states in 2015, Jonathan assures
President Goodluck
Jonathan was on Thursday morning elected the Presidential flag-bearer
of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 elections.
The President got 100 percent of the
votes cast by the delegates at the Special Convention of the party held at
the Eagles Square, Abuja.
He got 2812 ‘Yes’ votes out of the 2812
votes cast.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee,
Senator Ken Nnamani maintained that the votes are more than the 2/3 ‘Yes’ votes
stipulated in the party’s constitution for electing the Presidential
flag-bearer.
President Jonathan, who mounted the podium
at 12.45 a.m after the results were announced, picked Vice Presdent Namadi Sambo
as his running mate in the 2015 election.
He said: “I stand before you to accept
your nomination as your Presidential flag-bearer. I will give my all. I will
not let you down. I will not fail the PDP and above all, I will not fail
Nigeria.”
Picking his running mate, he said: “I want
to announce that the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, a loyal and tested partner
will be my running mate and Vice Presidential Candidate once again.”
Thanking the party men and women for
giving him another chance to lead the country, he promised among other things,
to boost security in the country and fight corruption to a standstill.
Assuring that Nigeria will overcome its
challenges, he specifically promised that election will hold in all the states
of the Federation and the FCT in 2015.
He said: “Inspite of our challenges, our
unity remain solid. What we need today is to consolidate on our gains to secure
our future. Only by united efforts can we defeat terror.”
“This government will
continue to do whatever is desired to improve security. Our fight against
corruption is on course and we will do more in the coming years.”
