Muhammadu
Buhari, former military head of state, is likely to emerge flagbearer of the
All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 presidential election.
As at the time of filing
this report, Buhari was clearly ahead of four other
aspirants participating in the presidential primary of the party,
still going on at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, TheCable reports.
The other aspirants are
Rabiu Kwankwaso, governor of Kano state; Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo
state; Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president and Sam Nda-Isaiah, publisher of
Leadership.
Boss Mustapha, the
electoral official who presided over the election, had reached an agreement
with the agent of all the aspirants that the 40 ballot boxes used for the
primary would be emptied into a big box, while five boxes would be used to
sort out the votes in an alphabetic order.
The picture and names of
each of the candidates were pasted on the boxes.
However, the official
announced the names of the aspirants while sorting the ballot papers.
Though the first set of
votes counted was a tie between Buhari and Kwankwoso, the rate at which
Buhari’s name kept recurring placed him far ahead of Atiku, whose
name as been the second most-recurring.
The vote sorting process is
still ongoing.
